Eat Slow to Avoid Gaining Weight

Eat Slow to Avoid Gaining WeightThey don’t say “Enjoy your meal” for nothing. As health specialists have repeatedly pointed out and we also noted on a couple of past occasions, chewing food properly is the most certain way of savoring each dish, while also continuing to focus on health and, most importantly, preventing weight gain. As a new study cited by LiveScience also points out, chowing down can pack on the extra pounds in almost no time.

Although conducted on a very small number of subjects, the study reveals that it takes quite a few minutes for satiety signals to reach the brain, which happens too late in the case of a person who eats fast. That is to say, if we chow down our food without taking the proper time to chew it, our body learns only too late that it’s already full and we should have stopped one dish ago, experts state.

“Eating meals on the go may be unwise for those wanting to lose weight. New research reveals that scarfing down a lot of food, quickly, curbs the release of certain gut hormones that make you feel full. The result: Your body doesn’t get the memo that it’s time to stop dining and that may lead to overeating. That doesn’t bode well for our fast-paced lifestyles,” LiveScience writes on the findings of the study. Of course, overeating, combined with too little physical exercise, leads to piling on the extra pounds almost without noticing.

“Our findings give some insight into an aspect of modern-day food overconsumption, namely the fact that many people, pressed by demanding working and living conditions, eat faster and in greater amounts than in the past. The warning we were given as children that ‘wolfing down your food will make you fat,’ may in fact have a physiological explanation.” lead researcher of the new study, Dr. Alexander Kokkinos of Laiko General Hospital in Athens, Greece, says.

In order to prevent this, both the researchers in question and health experts in general recommend we take our time when sitting down for a meal. On average, it takes about 12 minutes for satiety signals to reach the brain of a thin individual, while that time is extended to 20 minutes in an obese person, the same publication reports. That is to say, if we eat in a shorter time than that, we’re more than likely to overeat.

Tips to Reduce Stress at Work

Tips to Reduce Stress at WorkStress is a killer, and we all probably know that, especially in those situations when the deadlines are nearing and we find we still haven’t completed the task at hand. Whatever the reason it appears for, stress diminishes productivity, while also taking a toll on our health. This is why experts recommend a few simple guidelines that we have to bear in mind when dealing with it, as summed up by Shape magazine.

We know that working out has beneficial effects on our general wellbeing and mood, as we also know that keeping hunger at bay is one way of feeling good throughout the day. With this is mind, it’s no wonder the most important recommendations experts offer us as regards stress management also deal with these two aspects. This way, their best advice is to keep moving about whenever we have the chance and to remember to eat right.

“Eat breakfast. Research shows that skipping breakfast may cause you to eat more later in the day. If you’re famished by the time lunch rolls around, you’re likely to overindulge, which isn’t just detrimental to your diet, but your stress levels as well. Putting too much glucose (blood sugar) in your system at one time adds stress to your body. Plus, any glucose that isn’t used is stored as fat and carrying around extra pounds is a strain.” Shape writes. By eating breakfast every day, you stay healthy, but also in top shape.

“Stretch it out. Even if you’re stuck in an epic meeting or tied to the phone with constant conference calls, you can still move your body. Hunching over a computer all day can take its toll, so do some stretches to release muscle tension. Reach forward to stretch your upper back and shoulder. To relieve tension from your neck, lift each ear away from the shoulders. Cross one foot over the opposite knee and lean forward slightly to stretch your hip and butt muscles.” the same magazine further writes.

Of course, it’s not just stretching that is highly recommended, as any type of movement is encouraged. For instance, if you have something to tell a colleague from a different department, forget the email and just walk to where he or she is working to tell it in person. Don’t take the elevator to your floor, take the stairs, use your lunch break to include a walk as well, and so on and so forth. Of course, while we’re on the topic of things to change, we should also reduce caffeine and nicotine intake to reduce stress, experts say.

Rihanna’s ‘Wait Your Turn’ Video Leaks

Rihanna’s ‘Wait Your Turn’ Video LeaksNot long ago, reports had it that Rihanna’s upcoming album, the one that is to drop at the end of this month and that has been in the meantime officially named “Rated R,” would bring to the table a new sound, a much edgier approach to music and, at the same time, an angrier one as well. Judging by the leaked “Wait Your Turn (The Wait Is Ova),” this might very well still prove to be so.

Nothing official about the track has been announced as of now, but reports in the media say it’s the second official single off the upcoming album, after the ballad-type “Russian Roulette.” However, given that it leaked presumably a long while ahead of the release, it could very well be that it no longer gets to see the day of the release as a single, and will be replaced by some other track on the album. That doesn’t change, though, the fact that it sounds great, music critics agree.

With her last album before this one, Rihanna sang about love, partying and friends, and would often use for it a sound that did not cross the threshold beyond playful and fun, not even when she sang about being a “good girl gone bad.” However, with both “Russian Roulette” and “Wait Your Turn” (granted the latter is an official track included on the album), Rihanna moves over to the dark side and, from there, delivers very precise beats covered in her typical falsetto voice, music insiders say.

The result is something that, while not very likely to get massive airplay, sends a powerful message and is also extremely enjoyable. “A fresh material from Rihanna called ‘Wait Your Turn’ which was previously referred to as ‘The Wait Is Ova’ has hit the web. Unlike her previous single ‘Russian Roulette’ which carries slow jam, this new one contains mid-tempo tune. Earlier last month, Mikkel S. Eriksen of production duo Stargate said, ‘We were just told that they go for “The Wait Is Ova” as next single and that it will launch in a few weeks – before the album release,’ Though so, Rihanna and people from her label haven’t confirmed that matter,” AceShowbiz writes.

However, no matter how much some would argue that these new releases from the singer are the clearest sign of artistic maturation, there are still those who would rather have a more fun Rihanna, the kind they got to hear on the previous studio material. Below is the full “Wait Your Turn (The Wait Is Ova),” listen to it and make up your own mind as to who to believe. Enjoy.

Britney Spears Is Hot and Bothered in New ‘3’ Video

Britney Spears Is Hot and Bothered in New ‘3’ VideoIt’s been quite a while that Britney Spears hasn’t shown the kind of confidence she had when shooting for videos for some of her hottest tracks, like “I’m a Slave 4 U” and “Toxic.” However, in her latest video, for the chart-topping single “3” that premiered hours ago on her official page, the pop princess proves to the world that, if there’s anyone happy to be back, she is that person.

As MTV also puts it in a review of the clip, there is no longer any doubt that Britney is back. Shot by Diane Martel earlier this month, the video shows the singer in a series of glamour shots, alternating black and white, and scenes in which she’s surrounded either by male or female dancers. Most importantly – and what must matter for the fans first of all – the just released clip shows that Britney is having fun again, doing what she does best: dancing and basically looking hot.

“The video, shot by director Diane Martel earlier this month, is a series of glamour shots and dance breaks. The video opens with Britney in a sparkly little black dress, spritzing herself with perfume and putting on mascara. Then it cuts to a shot of her holding her hair up provocatively and singing the song’s opening lines: ‘1,2,3/ Not only you and me/ Got 180 degrees/ And I’m caught in between.’ […] Shots of the singer in black and white, wearing a halter-cut leotard in a steam-filled room, are cut with images of just her legs in lacy tights walking across the screen.” MTV writes of the release.

Whether dancing next to male or female dancers, Britney seems extremely comfortable doing so, the same publication further says. She also looks at and flirts with the camera, smiling that brilliant and confident smile that is so like Britney, as fans put it. The result is a fast-paced video that showcases the very things that made her a star so many years ago: energetic moves, excellent choreography and “in your face” attitude as regards the negativism she’s occasionally showered with in the media.

“Britney also does a lot of dancing in close-up shots, where you can’t fully see her whole body. In some of the dance sequences she’s flanked by male dancers or standing in a lineup of women who do acrobatics on a raised ballerina bar as she sashays around. There are a few moments in the video where Britney’s personality shines. She smiles at the song’s tongue-in-cheek lyrics, particularly when she finishes the song’s bridge about loving multiple people at once.” MTV further says.

Below is the full video for Britney Spears’ “3” single. Expect it to get massive airplay on dedicated channels, critics say.
